Nia DeCoux (she/her) is a historian and storyteller whose work grows from her deep Louisiana roots that stretch back centuries. Drawing from both New Orleans city life and Black rural traditions, she documents and shares the stories that shape our communities. Her work as an educator and writer focuses on the interconnections between history, activism, and community care. Through various projects and collaborations, she creates spaces for people to explore Louisiana's layered histories and imagine new possibilities for the future. She serves on the board of the Black Americana Fest, supporting efforts to highlight African American contributions to music and storytelling. When she's not teaching or writing, Nia enjoys treasure hunting in secondhand shops, trying new recipes, and striking up conversations with strangers. She lives in New Orleans with her partner, two dogs, and a cat.
